Safe Food for the World is Food Safety Work’s initiative to spread the message on making safe food available to the people. This campaign was run from 12th October to 16th October, to create awareness about the same through various activities that address the different stakeholders in the ecosystem. The campaign also marked the “World Standards Day“, “Global Handwashing Day“ and “World Food Day“ and the activities were themed around these.
Food handlers are really the foot soldiers in ensuring food safety and the campaign kicked off on the 12th with a free FoSTaC: Basic Catering training for the food handlers and students. This was a 3.5-hour training as per the FSSAI course curriculum. During the training, the food handlers and students got to know about the various aspects of food safety and their role in ensuring the same for their customers. Over 100 participants registered for the training. All the participants who passed the exam were awarded FoSTaC Certificates.
The event on the 13th was targeted towards professionals aspiring to build a career in this space. This was a 3 hours dual-track discussion on Careers in Food Safety where participants got an opportunity to hear from and talk to 5 successful industry experts who have had successful careers in Food Safety in diverse roles like Food Safety Management Systems, Corporate Quality & Safety, Food Biochemistry, R&D and regulatory. 14th was World Standards Day, which was marked by our Food Safety Conversation titled “Standards for Ensuring Food Safety“. In the 90-minute panel discussion, the discussion with the prominent industry leaders revolved around what the standards have to offer and why they are critical to food safety. It was also an opportunity to discuss how the Indian food industry is adopting these to make themselves globally competitive. Apart from this, all the courses for in the month of October revolved around standards and were delivered through our online platform Food Safety Works Academy.
The Global Handwashing Day was celebrated on the 15th by distributing free hand hygiene posters to restaurants around Bangalore to help them understand the importance of hand hygiene and the right process to wash their hands.
To mark World Food Day, which was on the 16th of October, a Food Safety poster designing contest was organized. In the preceding two weeks over 150 contestants from 30 schools across India participated. The winners of the poster designing contest were announced during the webinar which was also streamed live on Facebook. On the panel for the webinar, there were Mr. Krish Ashok, Author of Masala Lab, and Chef Abhijit Saha Founder & Principal Consultant of Ace Hospitality & Consulting Pvt Ltd. Below are the winners of the contest. Winners from the Senior Category received an autographed book with a personal message from Krish in addition to a certificate of appreciation and an art kit. All participants received a certificate of participation.
The campaign directly engaged with over 50,000 people through digital media channels like E-mail, Facebook and LinkedIn. The campaign should help bring the issue of food safety into the conversation of all the stakeholders.
