A restaurant in Chennai was shut down on Monday after food safety officials found a plastic bag in a container of sambar. The discovery was made during a surprise inspection of the restaurant, which had received complaints of food poisoning from several customers.
Food safety officials also found other violations at the restaurant, including stale meat and insects in the kitchen. The restaurant has been shut down until further notice.
As suggested by FSSAI, plastic should not enter the kitchen area, and only stainless steel containers should be used in the kitchen. Things should be emptied into them before entering the premises. Such incidents show the lack of awareness among the food handlers regarding Good Manufacturing Practices and FSSAI guidelines.
