Jammu, July 29, 2025 — During a major food safety operation, Jammu officials seized 800 kilograms of adulterated paneer being transported from Delhi to Katra. The seizure has raised serious concerns about the quality and safety of paneer, a popular dairy product consumed widely across India.
During a routine inspection, the Food Safety Wing of the Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO) Jammu Division intercepted a passenger bus carrying a large consignment of substandard paneer.

Food Safety officials discovered the suspicious dairy product during a thorough inspection. Immediately initiated legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA) 2006. They collected samples and sent them to a certified laboratory for detailed analysis.
Preliminary tests have already raised red flags. Deputy Commissioner of Food Safety, Madan Lal Magotra, confirmed that the paneer did not meet basic food safety standards.
“Initial testing revealed that the paneer lacked animal fat and was of substandard quality. The final laboratory report is expected shortly, which will give us a clearer picture,” Magotra stated in an interview with Republic.
