Safety With Divinity Program at Sree Raghavendra Swamy Temple

Safety with Divinity program was held at Sree Raghavendra Swamy Temple Uttarahalli Bangalore on 25.03.21. The occasion was honored by Dr. Dhanyakumar- Taluk Health Officer Bangalore South, Mr. Gururaj Chittapurkar, Director of SLN Food Park Pvt. Ltd, Ms. Sarika Agrawal- M.D. Food Safety Works and Dr. Shashikanth Kunigal- National Level Resource Person.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Dhanyakumar emphasized on the safety measures that shall be taken while preparing prasadam at places of worship. Followed by he added that, “Food Safety Works is doing a part of FSSAI’s work by bringing awareness and conducting training programs thereby, creating a socially driven initiative, ‘Safety with Divinity'”. The program highlights, prime agenda of BHOG- implementation of Food Safety Management System at Places of Worship. The program being a social outreach, not only the food handlers at temples are being trained but also the community is benefited on Food Safety and Hygiene Practices.

Mr. Gururaj then welcomed the Food Safety Works and thanked for approaching the temple. He also mentioned that, the temple will be implementing every advice and guidance given through the program. He also appreciated the company’s knowledgeable team and other members of the team who made this program a successful event with a cumulative experience of 200+ years.

Followed by, Mr. Vadiraj Bharadwaj, who is a temple devotee and active member, leading our programs at all the temples added, this program is an add-on which will help in preparing prasadams along with the existing traditional and hygienic practices.

Finally, Ms. Sarika in her thank you note explained the program’s initiative and how willing she is to create an awareness about food safety among the food handlers who prepare the prasadam. She thanked the temple authorities and it’s management who sponsored the program and set an example by giving the importance to the Food Safety Practices while preparing prasadam at the place of worship.

Program insight: Through this program 29 food handlers were trained on the Food Safety and Hygiene Practices. Personal hygiene kits, food safety handouts, kitchen kits comprising of chopping board and knife (sponsored by Bharat Glass and Crockeries, Bangalore) was given to the food handlers. The participants received certificates from the FSSAI for completion of the training. The training was conducted in local language by Dr. Shashikanth Kunigal, who has also conducted many training in catering and manufacturing for FSSAI. The program was a success and was appreciated for its uniqueness in itself by the community members present at the occasion.
