The FSSAI has released a draft regulation to further amend the existing Packaging and Labeling regulations. The notification was published on 16th Sep 2020 and the stakeholders can share their suggestions or objections within 60 days.
The amendments are made in Clause 2.4: Specific Requirements/ Restrictions on manner of labelling, Sub clause 2.4.4: Specific Labelling Requirements of other Products. Following are the amendments to the existing clauses:
- 24 – This clause prescribes the declaration to be given on every food package which is permitted to contain sweetener mentioned under Appendix A of the FSS (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011
- 25 – It talks about the declaration to be given of food packets which contain non – caloric sweeteners
- 27 – The manner of declaration to be given on every package of Aspartame (Methyl ester), Acesulfame potassium, Sucralose, SACCHARINS and Neotame marketed as Table-Top Sweetener is mentioned in this clause
- 28 – Every package of food which contains a mixture of Sweeteners should have declarations according to this clause
- 29 – It has been omitted
- 46 – This clause contains the manner of declaration on the food packages containing polyols, isomalt, sorbitol and sorbitol syrup
