On 2nd August 2023, FSSAI published an advisory regarding the shelf life of Fortified Rice (FR) and Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK). As per FCI, FRK manufacturers issued a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) which contains the expiry date and also informed that a bulk quantity of FR & FRK remain in storage beyond one year period, because procurement of fortified rice is much more than that of annual requirement of NFSA/OWS schemes.
All the FSSAI-notified laboratories are advised not to mention the date of expiry or any other information related to the shelf life of the FR & FRK. FCI stated that a study to determine shelf life is in process and may take more than 2 years to complete.
