On 17th May 2022, FSSAI issued draft regulations regarding the amendment of Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018. The amended regulation is that the products made of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) may be used for packaging, storing, carrying, or dispensing food products as and when standards and guidelines are notified by the Food Authority. Such packaging materials shall also comply with any other national standards/regulations as applicable.

Any objections/suggestions with respect to the draft regulations may be sent to the Food Authority, before 60 days from the date of publication of the regulations in the Official Gazette.
