Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) First Amendment Regulations, 2020

These regulations will be called the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) First Amendment Regulations, 2020. FBOs shall comply with all the provisions of these regulations by 1st July 2021.

The changes are as follows.

  1. In regulation 7, after sub-regulation (2), following is inserted: “(2A) Claims including nutrient function claims for edible vegetable oils as provided in schedule – II A”
  2. In Schedule – I, the entries “Source” & “Rich/High” are substituted.
  3. After Schedule – II, “Schedule II A, List of claims for edible vegetable oils” will be inserted.
  • This list contains the claim statements that may be used on labels/advertisements.
  • But, the words ‘Rich’, ‘Contains’ may be used only in accordance with conditions specified in Schedule – I.
  • Also, the FBOs shall use these claim statements by ensuring no change in the intent & meaning of the claim.
  • Claim statements related to Coconut oil, Corn oil, Cottonseed oil, Groundnut oil, Linseed/Flax seed oil, Mustard/Rapeseed oil (Low Erucic), Mustard Oil, Olive Oil/Olive Pomace Oil/Extra virgin Olive oil, Safflower oil, Palm Kernel oil, Palmolein oil, Rice Bran oil, Sesame oil, Soybean oil & Sunflower oil are provided in this Schedule.
