Washington, U.S. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a serious regulatory warning after elevating the recall of three commercial cake and bread mix products to a Class I designation, the agency’s most urgent alert level, due to the presence of an undeclared milk allergen that poses a risk of severe allergic reactions.
The mixes, produced and distributed by B.C. Williams Bakery Service, Inc. of Dallas, were initially subject to a voluntary recall in late December 2025 after it was discovered that they contain milk not listed on the product labels — a major food allergen under FDA guidelines.
A Class I recall indicates a reasonable probability that consuming the affected products could lead to serious adverse health consequences or even death for individuals with milk allergies. Officials say no illnesses have yet been directly connected to these products, but the elevated classification reflects the potential danger if consumed.
The affected products are 50-pound multi-wall, poly-lined bags typically sold to bakeries, restaurants, and foodservice providers. Lot numbers cover Spice Cake Mix, Bread and Roll Mix, and Swiss Chocolate Cake Mix.
The FDA is urging businesses and consumers who may possess these mixes to immediately dispose of them or return them to their point of purchase. Food safety officials emphasize that accurate allergen labeling is critical to preventing life-threatening reactions.
This action underscores ongoing regulatory vigilance around food labeling and allergen disclosure, particularly for products distributed in bulk and used in commercial food preparation.
