Mandatory use of Test Report Formats

On 15th October 2024, FSSAI issued a directive requiring all food testing laboratories to use specific test report formats in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Rules, 2011 (and its amendments) and the Food Safety and Standards (Import) Regulation, 2017, including the NABL symbol. All FSSAI-notified food testing labs must adhere to these formats when issuing test reports for surveillance and enforcement samples.

The published test report formats include Form VII A (Report of the Food Analyst) and Form XI (Certificate of Analysis by the Referral Laboratory).

For imported food products, the laboratory or referral laboratory must issue the analysis report in Form 2.

Additionally, laboratories are required to include the NABL symbol in accordance with the guidelines specified in NABL 133 (Policy for use of the NABL symbol and claim of accreditation) for tests that fall under their scope of accreditation.
