On 25th Sep 2023, FSSAI drew a reference to the Food Safety and Standards ( FPS & FA) First Amendment regulation, 2021 prescribing standards for Bajra flour and Jowar flour, and the Food Safety and Standards ( FPS & FA) Fifth Amendment Regulation, 2021 prescribing standards for Multi grain flour and Mixed millet flour. In accordance with additional directions from the FSS Act, 2006, dated 27 July 22 and 15 February 23, the enforcement of the alcohol content for Bajra flour, Jowar flour, multigrain flour, and mixed millet flour, as well as the total dietary fiber for mixed millet flour, was postponed until the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023, respectively. Additionally, the maximum moisture level in mixed flour was amended to 13% and re-instituted with effect from 27/02/23 pursuant to a directive of 15/02/23.
Alcoholic acidity and total dietary fiber are both being made available for an additional six months or until December 31, respectively, while moisture content is being made operational again as of July 27, 2023.
