In this edition of Food Safety Conversation hosted by Food Safety Works, the focus was on Sustainable Food Cold Chains — a critical component of food safety and environmental responsibility. The session explored how traditional cold chains, which are essential for preserving perishable goods, can transition toward more sustainable models.
Cold chains help maintain the safety and quality of food by controlling temperature during storage and transport. However, most rely on fossil fuel-based refrigeration, contributing to significant greenhouse gas emissions.
The conversation brought together industry experts to discuss climate-friendly alternatives such as solar-powered cold storage, phase change materials, and natural refrigerants. Speakers addressed real-world challenges, from infrastructure limitations to cost and policy gaps, while also highlighting innovative solutions already being implemented.
The session emphasized the need for collaboration, innovation, and policy support to build resilient, low-impact cold chains that ensure food safety while protecting the planet. The Panelist are
- Mr. Arthur Maurer, Founder, Arthur’s Food Company
- Dr. Edward Danish, Chief R&D Officer, Fresh to Home
- Mr. Shivakumar L.M, Head Quality & HSE, Snowman Logistics
Moderated by Mr. Ramesh Agarwal, CEO, Food Safety Works.
