Food Safety Conversation: Ensuring safety of dairy products

India has the world’s largest dairy herd with over 300 million bovines, producing over 187 million tonnes of milk. We are first among all countries in both production and consumption of milk. But milk is a highly nutritious food that is ideally suited for growth of pathogenic organisms. Consumption of raw milk remains a well-identified risk factor for foodborne disease. Pasteurization was a boon yet not everything happens as per plan. Then there is the issue of contamination. As per the 2018 report 68% milk & milk products in India not as per FSSAI standard.

There are issues of antibiotics, adulteration and contamination. To talk about all of these as well as new trends towards consumption of raw milk, A2, Lactose free milk, we have a very knowledgeable panel consisting of academicians, researchers and industry with whom we will be talking about the various aspects of Food Safety. We will have Mr. Milton Srivastava, Head of Operations, OSAM Dairy, Mr. Prashant  Bhat, Chief R&D officer  of Mother Dairy,  New Delhi. Mr. Pritpal Singh, Process Engineer, with over 10 years experience in Dairy Manufacturing at Danone Australia and  Dr. Surendranath, retired professor of NDRI and a committee member of FSSAI. The panel will be moderated by Sarika Agarwal, Principal Consultant, Food Safety Works.
