UP Seizes Over 2 Tonnes of Adulterated Dairy Products Ahead of Holi

Uttar Pradesh, India — The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in coordination with the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration (UPFSDA), conducted large-scale enforcement operations between February 23 and 25, 2026, leading to the seizure and destruction of more than 2,000 kg of adulterated dairy products and contaminated food products across multiple districts by Pre Holi.

The inspections targeted high-demand dairy commodities including paneer, khoya, milk, and related products, which typically witness increased consumption during the Holi festival season.

Ghaziabad: 1,200 Kg Adulterated Paneer Destroyed

On February 23, authorities carried out a major crackdown in Ghaziabad, seizing 1,200 kg of paneer suspected to be adulterated. The consignment, valued at approximately ₹3.84 lakh, was declared unfit for consumption and destroyed on-site.

Officials collected three samples from the seized stock for laboratory testing to determine the nature of adulteration and assess compliance with food safety standards.

Barabanki: Multiple Contaminated Products Disposed

On February 24, food safety officials conducted raids in Barabanki, resulting in the destruction of:

  • 60 kg of khoya
  • 250 litres of milk
  • 60 kg of spices
  • 370 kg of kachri-papad
  • 90 kg of chhena

A total of 10 samples were collected from various establishments for further laboratory analysis. Authorities stated that intensified inspections were part of preventive measures during the festive period, when cases of food adulteration historically rise.

Kanpur: 900 Kg Khoya Seized at Railway Station

On February 25, enforcement teams intercepted nine quintals (900 kg) of khoya at Panki Railway Station in Kanpur. The product was reportedly stored under extremely unhygienic conditions.

The contaminated stock was transported to a designated waste disposal facility in Govind Nagar to prevent re-entry into the food supply chain.

Regulatory Context

Festive seasons such as Holi often see heightened demand for dairy-based sweets and snacks, increasing the risk of adulteration and compromised hygiene practices. The enforcement actions form part of ongoing surveillance measures to safeguard public health and ensure compliance with national food safety standards.

Laboratory results from the collected samples are currently awaited, and further regulatory action will depend on the findings.
