Through a letter dated 11th January, FSSAI has clarified regarding the tolerance limit of insecticide for which the MRL’s have not been fixed.

The MRLs of 213 insecticides for different foods are provided, except for a few foods in the FSS (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Regulation, 2011. The regulation stated that all foods for which the MRLs have not been fixed will have tolerance of 0.01 mg/ kg, but now it has been clarified that it is applicable only for agricultural commodity and its resultant physically processed foods and not for thermally and chemically processed foods.
