At the beginning of August 2023, stricter guidelines for food exporters into New Zealand went into effect.
Changes make it clearer what importers’ roles and responsibilities are when they bring food into the nation.
Before importing food into New Zealand, importers are required to complete a safety and suitability assessment, ensure that the food is stored and transported safely, maintain accurate records for at least four years, and have a recall plan in case anything goes wrong.
