Legal Metrology direction: Declaration of net quantity on edible oil 

On 15th July 2022, The Weights and Measure Unit of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution issued a direction regarding the declaration of net quantity on edible oil, etc, in volume with temperature violation. As per the provisions of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rule, 2011, it is advised that the net quantity of Non-edible Vegetable oil, Edible oil and Vanaspati, Ghee, and Butter oil be declared in weight, in addition to volume (optional) without mentioning temperature. The manufacturers/packers/importers are advised to correct their labeling of declaring net quantity in the units of volume, within 6 months from the date of this direction, which should be without mentioning temperature.
