On 01^st September 2021, FSSAI released a letter addressing all E-Commerce Food Business Operators (FBOs) related to a Complaint against plant based food manufactures for using the word Milk and other dairy terms on labels .As per the FSS (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011, use of any dairy term for a product which is not milk, milk product or a composite milk product (e.g. plant based products / beverages) is prohibited. FSSAI has directed to investigate the labeling declarations of such products which are reported to contradict the regulation.
