FSSAI : New Regulation on Milk Analogues, exclusive ‘Dairy Logo’ and standards for ghee

On 27 th December, FSSAI published a regulation called the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Sixth Amendment Regulations, 2021. Through this FSSAI has included regulation on milk analogues.

The regulator has made it mandatory for all milk and milk products, including composite milk products to have the ‘Milk logo’ and the milk analogues to have a declaration “Contains…..…”  and the blank to be filled with the name of the constituent  that was not derived from milk along with its source. FBOs should comply with the standards in the regulation by 1st July,2022.

FSSAI has also provided new standards regarding fatty acid content for ghee which shall come into force after two years of the publication of these regulations in the Official Gazette.
