FSSAI Limits Trans – Fat in Food Products

After limiting the trans-fat in oils and fats, on 2nd February, 2021 FSSAI has published an amendment to Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 201, according to which the food products that contain edible oils and fats as an ingredient shall not contain industrial trans fatty acids more than 2% by mass of the total oils / fats present in the product. This amendment shall be effective from 01st January, 2022. 

Eliminating trans fat is now a global concern. WHO has committed for a global elimination of trans fats by 2023.
