On 1st October 2024, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued an order regarding the Streamlining of the Halal Certification Process for Meat and Meat Products, along with updated Export Policy Conditions for certain meat products, which will take effect from 16th October 2024.
i) Specified meat and meat products will only be allowed for export as Halal certified to the countries listed below if they are produced, processed, or packaged in facilities certified under the India Conformity Assessment Scheme (I-CAS-Halal) of the Quality Council of India (QCI).
ii) After shipments are made, exporters must provide valid Halal certificates issued under I-CAS by a certification body accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) to buyers in the importing countries.
iii) In addition to meeting I-CAS conformity requirements, exporters of specified meat products to countries that regulate the import of Halal products must provide valid certificates to buyers in those countries, issued by Halal Certification Bodies approved under the importing country’s National Halal system.
The export policy and procedures for non-Halal-certified meat and meat products remain unchanged.
