FSSAI to monitor the sale of fresh fruit and vegetables, for the presence of pesticide residues, non-permitted wax coating, non-permitted artificial ripener and artificial colours in the market 

On 21st November 2023, FSSAI issued a direction to curb the menace of excess use of pesticides, non-permitted wax coating, non-permitted artificial ripener and artificial colours. State /UT authorities are asked to sleep a strict vigil on FBOs who are engaged in manufacturing/re-packing fresh/surface treated/minimally processed Fruits and vegetables. Also, the awareness-building measures under the Eat Right Initiatives may be conducted.
