Advisory: Clarification regarding the permissibility of selling /marketing fruit juices with non-standardized ingredients

On 31st July 2024,  FSSAI issued an advisory regarding the Selling/Marketing of fruit juices with Non-standardized ingredients. FSSAI noticed that some manufacturers are adding Non-Standardized ingredients such as ‘Deionized apple juice concentrate’ in their fruit juices, which is not permitted Under FSS Regulations.

FBOs are directed to obtain approval for such Non-Specified Food/Ingredients under the FSS (Approval for Non-Specific Food and Food Ingredients) Regulation, 2017. Additionally, FBOs are directed to ensure that any claims made on the labels or in advertisements comply with the labelling and claims regulations, respectively.
