Food for Sportsperson: Testing of prohibited substance declared by WADA

On 11 November 2024, FSSAI advised that food products for sportspersons must not contain substances banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), and Food Business Operators are responsible for checking the updated list of prohibited substances, effective each January 1. Additionally, FSSAI has recognized the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Hyderabad as a certified testing lab for WADA-prohibited substances, with NABL accreditation for chemical analysis in nutritional supplements. Enforcement authorities may also utilise the aforementioned notified laboratory for testing of Food for Sportsperson’ with FSSAI license for prohibited substances declared by WADA (as per existing scope & accreditation of the laboratory), as and when required.
